Chicago Appliance Repair Doctor was built around one idea: the person who diagnoses your appliance should be the person who repairs it, and the price you are quoted should be the price you pay.

How we work

Every visit follows the same sequence. Test it, read what the machine has logged, and work out what has actually gone rather than what usually goes. One price, part and labor together. Get your approval. Then we open it, and not before.

Four things we do differently

We test it first. One meter reading is often all that separates a $90 part from a $600 one. Changing parts until the machine behaves is quick for us and costly for you.

We tell you when not to bother. More than half the price of a comparable new machine, on one already past two-thirds of its life, and you should buy rather than fix. You will hear that from us on the phone where we can tell that early. We would sooner lose the job than sell you something you do not need.

We take built-ins seriously. Column refrigerators, integrated dishwashers and built-in Wolf and Thermador cooking are core work for us. Getting a panel-ready unit out of fitted cabinetry – especially the older, custom millwork common in Chicago two-flats and Gold Coast buildings – without leaving a mark is slow work, and we would rather be slow than have you looking at a scratch for the next ten years.

No travel surcharge. Every ZIP code listed on our service area pages is charged the same, and we do not add a fee for distance inside them.

The people who come out

The same core group of technicians, trained on the makes we actually see here, and certified to EPA 608 for sealed refrigeration. They carry manufacturer documentation and diagnostic tooling for the brands that actually fill kitchens across Chicago, from GE and Whirlpool laundry to Bosch and Miele dishwashers and built-in Wolf and Thermador cooking.

They also have one standing rule that beats the rest: say what went and why, plainly, before any money is mentioned.

Where we work

Chicago, Lincoln Park, Gold Coast, Lakeview, River North, Winnetka, Glencoe, Highland Park, Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Evanston and Oak Park – twelve neighborhoods and suburbs, all on the same pricing and the same two-hour arrival window. A defined service area is what makes that window a promise rather than an estimate.
